METAL LINE DRAWINGS
Just as the Archipelago project started with an interest with the space left unused, so too did Metal Line Drawings. What would be the result of a drawing that was only the line, no paper? Through the use of metal, we're able to make the line strong enough to stand on its own and showcase the space between.
One-line drawings are interesting because of their achievement of dimensions through minimalism. Even though it produces a two-dimensional shape, the eye wants to travel along the line, understanding how the single dimension created the second. Metal Line Drawings adds the third dimension, but just barely. The fourteen gauge steel allows a slight edge to be seen, but not enough to take away from the overall effect of a drawing having been cut out.
The space left between the lines allows a new possibility of display. Show the wall behind, hang in a picture window, allow the day's natural light changes to project the drawing's shadows. We're excited to see where these end up.
They are coated in black enamel paint to match the source drawing as closely as possible. Other colors are possible, however. Contact us for inquiries.
They are available for purchase on the shop page. Each design is a limited edition, signed and numbered on the back.
