Desk | Elm + Sassafras + Steel
This commissioned desk is a simple and familiar design, but made special by the hardwood top and subtle angle on the base. The wood came from a barn in Ann Arbor and is likely close to a 100-years old. The wood was covered in old mud and hay and so the wood species were going to be a surprise when it was eventually revealed. The best I can tell, this is all elm except for the front board which appears to be sassafras. I would not be able to easily source either of these species from hardwood dealers, so this truly is one-of-a-kind. The base is blackened steel and the legs are individually removeable since it would potentially need to be flat packed for the clients' upcoming move.
